Homero Chavez is an internationally recognized drummer, percussionist, Cajón player, producer, bandleader, and educator. Nominated for the first-ever Education Grammy in 2014, Homero has held leadership roles as VP of Outreach and President of the PAS Chapter California. Born into an artistic family in El Paso, Texas, with roots in vaudeville, music, and performance, he carries on a rich legacy of innovation in percussion.
Known for his groundbreaking work in Cajón design and ergonomic playing techniques, Homero’s work has been featured in major music publications such as Latin Beat, Modern Drummer, and Rhythm magazines. His career has spanned performances and recordings with international artists, including Sweetwater (Woodstock 1969), Michelle Shock, Bopol Masimiana (Zaire), Los Cojolites (Mexico), The Mandators (Nigeria), and many others. He has worked across diverse genres, from Latin Jazz and World Music to Blues and Rock.
As musical director of Homero Chavez Y Una Noche and Mixto Cajon Ensemble, Homero has also led productions such as You Only Live Twice at the Steve Allen Theater and Agustin Lara tributes at The Ford Amphitheater in Hollywood. A passionate educator, he has presented over 500 clinics worldwide, including at PASIC, NAMM, and KOSA, and created successful programs like StompKids and The Independent Drum Line. He currently teaches at institutions such as The University of La Verne and The Freight & Salvage and The Claremont Community School of Music.
A sought-after producer, Homero is currently working on upcoming projects with his bands Una Noche Latin Jazz and The Faith Healers, along with his instructional production, El Cajon Concepts.
